Salsa Social Night JJ Salsa Rengue

Last Friday decided to pop by JJ Salsa Rengue with my friend to try out the Salsa social night

The Salsa social happens mostly on Fridays and Saturdays. The floor is open to polish moves you’ve learned in class, or to dance with fellow salseras or salseros! Everyone is welcomed! @ $5 per person
Time: 10pm to 12:30am
Address: JJSalsaRengue – 76A Peck Seah Street, Singapore 079331
Tel: 6227-2460
Directions: Right outside Exit A of the Tanjong Pagar MRT Station.

It began with awkwardness where we stood at the side watching the pro couples dance while waiting for the males to ask our hand for the dance. - thats the magic of salsa. You dont need to know the person to dance with! And for salsa, you could dance the whole night long. Though I felt that none of them were beginners to begin with, I guess having fun was the theme of the night. Dance! Bailar!

The spanish music brought back so many memories of salsa dancing in Mexico. I missed it to much. I'm so gonna take up salsa class soon.

Blood Donation Singapore

On my birthday this year, decided to make it special by bringing my friend along for blood donation at Outram. I have started donating blood since my JC days and it all started when I saw a movie that depicted a scene of a disaster that caused many to be injured and bleeding profusely and many patients were 'left' to die as there were not enough blood in the storage.

In Singapore, because we are blessed and are not affected by earth quakes or war or riots that leaves people bleeding to death, many of us because of the fear of blood, the fear of pain, disregards the need to donate blood. But imagine, by donating blood, you could be saving a life - a life that God has placed on this earth.

What can a little of my blood do - as my friends always say:
Blood contains many life-saving components that can help to treat different illnesses and injuries. For many people, blood donors are their life-line.

Your blood donation could help save the life of an accident victim, a patient with severe anaemia, a person undergoing major surgery or even a newborn baby.

The platelets found in blood are used to treat leukaemia patients. A single patient often needs platelets from 10 or more donors, all within a short period of time.

Every hour of the day, 15 units of blood are used in Singapore. They need to collect at least 350 units a day, as a whopping 100,000 units are needed in a year, just to meet the transfusion needs of patients in Singapore.

And we are in lacking of it - especially blood type O
(To view storage count of blood types needed : http://sbs.donorweb.org/)

Do find time - just one of these days - to donate blood- Your half an hour can save lives - Your half an hour can help a family

The Procedure is very easy

1) Registration
Your personal particulars will be recorded and you will be asked to fill in a health assessment questionnaire.

2) Medical screening
A doctor or nurse will ask you about your medical and social history to confirm that you are fit to make a donation, after which your weight, blood pressure, pulse and body temperature will be taken

3) Blood test
Your blood haemoglobin level will be checked to ensure that you can make a donation.

4) Blood donation
Your arm will be cleaned, after which a local painkiller will be applied to ensure that you feel no pain during the donation.

Where you can donate
1) Blood mobile clinics

SDN Birthday Bash 2010

Started this blog to share the gifts lying in my house from all parts of the world, but decide to merge this with a blog that tells of the certain occasions that I participate in - with amigos :)And some of the events that I feel close to my heart.

Event: SDN Birthday Bash 2010
Rating : 10/10
Comment: I'm glad I did not miss it out for the fear of being stereotyped as being despo - SDN events never disappoints me - I always have such fun -

A brief about SDN
Social Development Unit (SDU) was formed in 1984 to promote marriages among graduate singles, while Social Development Services (SDS) was set up in 1985 to promote marriages among non-graduate singles. The two units were merged on 28 January 2009

On 16 October 2009, the unit was renamed Social Development Network (SDN). This new name reflects the organisation’s aim to forge an extensive network of singles, resources and partners and to create an environment conducive for singles to meet and forge meaningful relationships.

- In Oct 2009, 7 other people ( 4 guys and 3 girls) and I were selected to represent in a "Dating Challenge" to promote the new unit SDN where we participated in various activities and were updated in the newspaper. Out of us 4 couples, 1 of them have been dating and is planning of marriage ( smile) and another guy have gotten attached. Through the SDN committee, I got to realise that people fear in joining the SDN activities because they fear of being labelled as despo - but come on! Just have fun and enjoy the activities and that of making new friends. (Its an even better way than clubbing! And you get to even make conversation.)

Here's a snapshot of the event :)

They began with a few games which was really refreshing

1) They gathered similar number of guys and ladies on the small stage in the center of the crowd of people via their birthday months and then made them sing a duet. It was so cute!

2)Next, they gathered 4 guys and 4 ladies on stage where the guys were made to dance to "Sorry Sorry" by Super Junior and the ladies to dance to "Nobody" by the Wondergirls - Really famous Korean songs.
Both groups were so sporty! And they really danced their heart out!

3)SDN Pageant - which had the selected candidates voice out their ideals

And after taken picture with Ms Ada Wong - One of the founder for Dating Loft

4)And the final game which had a rolling rubber big ball - where we had to roll the ball around and were promised cruises and washing machines - if one catches the ball. Imagine that. We were so excited. With the winners of the stage, the twist was introduced - which made me doubled in laughter - the cruises were that of the rubber float ; the washing machine were that of olden days clothes scrubbing board and so on. It was hilarious to see everyone's expression.

And to end off the party were some very good singing groups that they invited - I cant remember their names but they were fantastic! -

and the big birthday cake!
SDN really has a great support group.

Also in this post, I want to thank SDN for the wonderful experience i had when we were selected for the Dating Challenge. I had so much fun injected in my daily life and was able to do the things I wanted to do but did not have the time to do so - Sandcastle Building, professional photo shoot with make up artists, Laser Gun and Pizza making.

Professional Photo Shoot - Sponsored by The New Paper aka TNP
Where we were taught about grooming and makeup

The Sandcastle building - http://www.castlebeach.org/
Where we were taught that relationships needs to have a strong foundation and needs both parties to work together and compromise sometimes

The Laser Gun quest - http://www.combatlasersingapore.com/
Where it taught us to work together as a team - it was so fun.

The Pizza-making - Where it was held at Exclusive match

And last but not least, the friendship we made. The unknowns who have bonded and become friends.

There is a party coming up - if you're interested! :)
