Blood Donation Singapore

On my birthday this year, decided to make it special by bringing my friend along for blood donation at Outram. I have started donating blood since my JC days and it all started when I saw a movie that depicted a scene of a disaster that caused many to be injured and bleeding profusely and many patients were 'left' to die as there were not enough blood in the storage.

In Singapore, because we are blessed and are not affected by earth quakes or war or riots that leaves people bleeding to death, many of us because of the fear of blood, the fear of pain, disregards the need to donate blood. But imagine, by donating blood, you could be saving a life - a life that God has placed on this earth.

What can a little of my blood do - as my friends always say:
Blood contains many life-saving components that can help to treat different illnesses and injuries. For many people, blood donors are their life-line.

Your blood donation could help save the life of an accident victim, a patient with severe anaemia, a person undergoing major surgery or even a newborn baby.

The platelets found in blood are used to treat leukaemia patients. A single patient often needs platelets from 10 or more donors, all within a short period of time.

Every hour of the day, 15 units of blood are used in Singapore. They need to collect at least 350 units a day, as a whopping 100,000 units are needed in a year, just to meet the transfusion needs of patients in Singapore.

And we are in lacking of it - especially blood type O
